Your Daily Budget App Just Got a Lot Smarter — BentoMoney 1.0.6
I shipped 60 commits in this update. That's not a typo.
BentoMoney 1.0.6 is the biggest update since launch — and most of it came from using my own app every single day and writing down every time something felt off. A chart that didn't let me explore. A widget that showed yesterday's number at midnight. A search that couldn't find my own transactions.
This update fixes all of that. Here's what changed and why.
Your spending charts are interactive now
The Daily Spending chart and Year View both have scrubbers now. Drag across any day or month and the exact amount pops up. No more squinting at bars trying to guess if Tuesday was $12 or $18.
I built this because I kept tapping on my own charts expecting something to happen. Nothing did. Now it does.
Full-text search that actually works
You can now search your transactions by name, notes, or category — and it's fast. Type "coffee" and every coffee purchase shows up instantly. It uses full-text search under the hood, so partial matches and quick typing both work.
Before this, finding an old transaction meant scrolling. A lot of scrolling.
Smarter widgets
The home screen widget got a quiet overhaul. It now pre-computes tomorrow's budget so you're never looking at a stale number after midnight. Currency formatting matches your app settings exactly — symbol position, decimal places, everything. And if you're running the iOS 26, there's Liquid Glass support with edge-to-edge gradients.
Small details, but the widget is the thing you see 20 times a day. It should be right every time.
Budget streaks that make sense
Streaks got a full rework. The old system had edge cases — editing a past transaction could accidentally bump your streak, milestones would re-celebrate every time you opened the app, and the grace period logic was confusing.
Now streaks use your daily budget records as the single source of truth. Milestones celebrate once. The grace period is a clear deadline with immediate recovery. If you're on a 14-day streak, that number is real.
Better multi-currency support
BentoMoney supports 132 currencies, but supporting them and displaying them correctly are two different problems. A user reached out about Kuwaiti Dinar (KWD) not rendering properly — the symbol placement and decimal formatting were off. That's fixed now, along with display improvements for other Arabic currencies.
If you're tracking expenses in a currency that doesn't use Western formatting, this update should feel noticeably better.
CSV import got smarter
If you're coming from a bank export or a spreadsheet, BentoMoney now does a better job matching your categories automatically. It handles aliases (so "Groceries" and "GROCERY" map to the same place), normalizes formatting, and even does basic stemming. Less manual cleanup after import.
Under the hood
Some things you won't see but will feel: faster budget calculations on app launch, fewer redundant database calls, smoother animations in category modals, and a financial data sanitization system that keeps your numbers out of logs entirely. Your data stays on your device — and now it stays out of debug output too.
The full changelog has 60 items across bug fixes, performance work, and refactoring. This is what "actively maintained" looks like when it's one person building the app they use every day. 😄
What's next
A few things I'm exploring for upcoming releases:
Smarter insights. Right now BentoMoney shows you where your money goes. I want it to help you understand why — patterns in your spending, trends you might not notice, the kind of context that makes the data useful without making the app complicated.
Multilingual support. BentoMoney already handles 132 currencies, but the app itself is English-only. I'd like to change that. If you'd use BentoMoney in another language, I want to hear which one.
Your ideas. I built this app for myself, but every update gets better because of the people using it. The KWD currency fix in this release happened because someone emailed me. That's how this works.
If something feels off, if you have a feature request, or if you just want to say hi — you can email me directly from inside the app (Settings → Contact Support) or reach out at [email protected]. Either way, it lands in my inbox and I read everything.
